For lawns, summer can be one of the most challenging times, particularly if you live in a warmer climate. It can be a time to experience the various problems that can cause stress and poor health to homeowners. However, with some lawn care habits, you can improve your lawn no matter what season it is.
Water your lawn
Regular watering can greatly help in the health of your turf. With proper watering, water is absorbed down the deeper part of the soil. This will make the grass heat and drought tolerant because of its fast evaporation.
When there is proper watering, the grass make a deep root system. If it has shown signs of wilt, sprinkle water immediately. This is an effective way of making a deep root system for the grass.
Before summer comes, your lawn should be healthy already. It is not recommended to wait for summer before you take care of your lawn. Do the same for winter lawn care.
Apply fertilizer to the lawn, before the hardest seasons of the year comes which are the summer and winter. Fertilizer will make sure that the grass is in maximum health when the heat and cold arrives.
The importance of correct lawn mowing
When it is summer, there is more likely a loss of moisture. The lawn’s condition will be improve through proper watering as discussed previously. But you can also improve the soil by reducing the amount of water loss through evaporation.
If the grass is tall already, you can cut them short. However, there is a great difference when you let them grow during summer. When the grass grows, it provides shade and insulation to the soil to fight loss of moisture. Hence, the grass will have less heat stress.
This way of insulation, the soil against moisture can be added by mulch mowing in the lawn. Do not collect the lawn cuttings and allow them to stay on the lawn. Through recycling of the lawn cuttings, it gives insulation to the lawn soil against moisture loss. Aside from the fertilizer, they give nutrients to the lawn.
Provide pest control
There are some treatments for lawn pest and weeds can be harmful to the lawn, particularly if it is not applied by a professional. As much as you can, never treat weeds and pest with the use of chemical pesticide during summer. Wait for the milder days to spray the treatment. Actually, it is better to treat the pests and weeds during spring than in summer.
Lastly, you can hire a professional to help you maintain your lawn. In this way, you can ensure a healthy lawn no matter what season of the year it is.
